Memories of Water: Vocal Recital

“Water has the ability to both free and claim a soul. I chose the title “Memories of Water” for my honors voice recital because water evokes emotions and personifies wisdom, power, chaos, and freedom. The music I will be performing today has many references to various forms of water such as rivers, fog, and the sea. The Loire River in Poulenc’s Deux Poemes has borne witness to countless battles and bloodshed. Water takes on a more ominous and mysterious form through the eerie fog of Nebbie and the enchanting and deadly ocean of The Seal Man. The art song about the river nymph Daphne reveals the beauty, desirability, and chaos of water.”
